Prayer
God beyond gender, who intimately knows us all …
God beyond gender, who intimately knows us all …
Thank you for the diversity of your creation.
Thank you for the diversity of people – all of whom are your dear children.
Lord of all creation, in all its diversity – thank you for making us unique individuals who can come together to be united in your truth. Give us courage to challenge the ideas of those who think differently about the place of LGBTIQ people in your church. Give us wisdom to respond with grace and love.
We pray for all peoples. May they celebrate who they are and be freed from anxiety and celebrate their giftedness.
Thank you, Father that you have convinced me that you really do love me just as I am. That is enough to see me through.
Dear Father, you are a good, good Father. That’s who you are. And you love me and that’s who I am.
Heavenly Father, forgive us for being like the older brother of the Prodigal Son. Help us to be more like you in loving those who are queer.
Give me a spirit open to the fears of people so that I understand what seems to threaten them rather than leap to judging.
Jesus, help us to love as deeply as you loved. You loved the people we often want to exclude. Forgive us.
We pray for greater understanding, less discrimination, and acceptance of LGBTIQ people.
May we be reminded that our unity through the Holy Spirit is more important than our gender.
We pray for all LGBTIQ people and their families and friends knowing that they have probably faced unfair challenges, suffering and anxiety. May they always be assured of your deep love for them.
We pray that LCA people would aspire to be like Jesus in reaching out to marginalised people including LGBTIQ people.
God, open people’s eyes, ears and hearts so that all gay people feel equally included in your family, and individual gifts are acknowledged and appreciated.
Spirit of God, we pray for your guidance in how we can proceed in this important discussion.
We pray that the leaders and voices heard today do not become discouraged but continue with good courage to move towards the future.
Let love and hope grow within this group so that the radical love which Jesus showed may grow into a beautiful new power in our Church and in our society.
Lord, lead our church, your church. May we hear you.
In Jesus name, Amen
